The Karsittu hybrid energy project is being developed by Karsittu Green Energy Oy. Following the legal validity of the zoning plan earlier this year, the legally valid building permits represent a further step in advancing the hybrid energy solution. The planned solar power plant covers approximately 172 hectares, of which up to 136 hectares can be used for solar panels. Its estimated grid-connected capacity is approximately 100 MW, with anticipated annual electricity production of around 110 000 – 120 000 MWh. The project includes also a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 65 MW/130 MWh, enabling electricity to be stored and supplied to the grid when needed.
Etha has managed the development of the project for about three years. The work started with assessing the site’s suitability for solar power production and continued through to securing legally valid building permits for the solar power plant and the substation. Etha has provided full project management, technical design, and feasibility studies in the project. Etha has also handled zoning and permitting for both the solar power plant and the grid connection, and has coordinated the required environmental assessments.
“Legally valid building permits mark an important milestone in the project, bringing the Karsittu hybrid energy project to the ready-to-build stage after three years of development work. The project represents a significant addition to the solar power development in Finland, and our project team and I are glad having supported the project throughout the development process”, says Artturi Kurhela, Technical Project Manager Etha.
The Karsittu project illustrates the range of assessments, planning, stakeholder management and permitting required to advance a large-scale hybrid energy project. Etha has brought together expertise across different stages, supporting continuity and coordination throughout the project’s development. We at Etha are pleased to have been part of the development of the Karsittu hybrid energy project.
