Etha supporting the development of a large-scale solar power project in Huittinen

A significant solar power project in Huittinen has reached a key milestone as its zoning plan gains legal validity, paving way for 100 MW of new renewable energy capacity. Etha has played a central role in the project’s development, supporting its progress from early assessments to the building permit phase.

We are pleased to have acted as Project Development Consultant in the Karsittu Solar Power Project, a significant renewable energy project located in Huittinen, in southwest Finland. The zoning plan for the planned solar power project has gained legal validity, marking an important step forward in advancing domestic, low-emission electricity production.

The Karsittu solar power farm is being developed by Karsittu Green Energy Oy, with Etha Oy responsible for key development tasks throughout the project lifecycle. In its role as Project Development Consultant, Etha has ensured that technical feasibility, environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance are all integrated into the project. Etha’s role has included project management, stakeholder engagement, support in the Environmental Impact Assessment process, as well as a variety of preliminary assessments for the solar farm. These have included, for example, layout planning, energy yield and feasibility analyses, visual impact studies, and CO2 calculations, all contributing to ensuring that the project meets both national legislative requirements and local planning objectives.

“This project is a strong example of how careful planning and efficient cooperation between stakeholders can enable large-scale renewable energy development in Finland. It’s been rewarding to see the project progress steadily from early assessment to the building permit phase.”, states Artturi Kurhela, Project Manager of the Karsittu Solar Power Project.

The planned solar power farm covers a total area of approximately 172 hectares, of which up to 136 hectares may be used for solar panels. At full scale, the project’s estimated grid-connected capacity is about 100 MW, with an anticipated annual electricity production of approximately 107 000 MWh. In addition, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of approximately 130 MWh and a maximum output of 65 MW is also planned for the area. BESS enables the storage of excess energy and its release during periods of high demand. With the zoning plan now approved, the project has progressed to the building permit application phase.

The Karsittu solar power project demonstrates how professional project development can enable large-scale renewable energy investments in Finland. We at Etha are proud to contribute to the clean energy transition and the development of solar power in Finland.
