The Takakangas-Pihlajaharju wind farm project in Parkano, the western part of Finland, has been under development since 2020. The environmental impact assessment of the wind farm project was completed in 2023, and the city of Parkano approved the partial master plan in early 2024. The wind farm project covers an area of approximately 2 270 hectares, and 12 wind turbines have been planned to be built in the area. The total electrical output of the wind farm will be approximately 80 – 100 megawatts. Energy production is scheduled to commence in the area by 2029 when the possibilities for connecting the wind farm to the national grid will be improved due to Fingrid’s Kristiinankaupunki-Nokia grid development project.
Etha Oy has been involved in the project initiated by the city of Parkano since the beginning and has also supported in establishing the project company Parkanon Tuuli Oy who will oversee the development of the project in the future. Etha has worked actively with different stakeholders of the project, Metsähallitus being one of the key stakeholders. “The terms of land use and the scope of the cooperation in different stages of the project have been issues addressed in the negotiations with Metsähallitus. As the project has advanced, the focus area has moved primarily to an area owned by Metsähallitus, and this has led to a strengthened collaboration with Metsähallitus.”, says Project Manager Sonja Telkki. Metsähallitus is a state-owned enterprise, managing approximately one third of the land and water areas in Finland, aiming at sustainable management of natural values.
Metsähallitus and Parkanon Tuuli Oy have signed a cooperation agreement outlining the development of the project in the future, and Etha played an active role in supporting both parties in the negotiations. “Etha has offered technical, legal and business support to advance the project. We are very happy that the project is moving forward in good cooperation with different parties.”, concludes Business Development Manager Ben Talus.
